Monster High profile: Rhoda by Alias-Hugo Monster High profile: Rhoda by Alias-Hugo
I was inspired by :iconcandy2021:'s Monster High profiles to try one of my own!
Template by :iconbearmoon: ->

I haven't designed her friends yet, hence the blank spaces! :dummy:

I came up with Rhoda since most of the MH monsters are "children of", which made me think of Children of the Damned, and by extension, Village of the Damned.
Ya know, the creepy British kids?
Yes, the "We Know All Your Secrets" ones from the Simpsons... sort of.

Also it made me think of Children of the Corn, but they aren't as easy to turn into cartoon form since they don't all look exactly alike.

I chose to do my extended essay last year on children in horror cinema, so I had a lot of info whirling about my brain.
This wasn't the weirdest thing I came up with by far...
There was this crazy idea I had where Carrie ended up at Bates Motel and ended up becoming BFFs with Norman. Then Samara comes out of the TV, and we have a sitcom!

:la: So, Rhoda:

Her name is taken from the main character of "The Bad Seed", possibly one of the first creepy children in horror cinema. [link]
And boy, was she crazy!
Zellaby, of course, is the surname of the main characters in Village of the Damned

This is my first time trying out the style, so I decided to do this for funsies. I usually draw black and white characters as simply being black and white, even if everyone else is in colour. Watching the movie, I imagined these kids were supposed to be B&W, the remake backs this up somewhat.

I tried to keep her personality in-line with the children from the movie, I even made up a little voice for her to help me write. I threw in the line about chocolate since the kids in the movie go into the sweet shop every day - to buy sweets, naturally (creeping the woman at the counter out by being so damn polite), and since Midwich is in England, she'd be used to the sweeter chocolate we have in Europe.

Anywhoo, comments?

Excuse me, Ms. Rhoda, are you sure you didn't eat dark chocolate? That's known to be bitter chocolate.

Sort of, she's a character drawn in the style of Monster High but I made her up. This is part of a meme where artists come up with their own Monster High characters and draw them in the style of the dolls/show :)

Like the South American ghost lady? She's like a banshee or the lady in the well from Banchō Sarayashiki, right?

No, she drowned her children for to be with a man she loved but he rejected her. She killed herself and was questioned at thee gates of heaven as to the whereabouts of her children and was condemned to wander the earth, looking for her children. She cries, and La Llorona means "Weeping Woman." :3

I was about to ask if she was inspired by "The Bad Seed" when I saw her name, then I read the description and got giddy. She should have a pair of tap shoes for good measure. :XD:

I never thought of a Village/Children of the Damned kid. It really works, and if I wasn't thinking of retiring my MH OC Michael Revok, I'd think maybe they could be friends. :XD:
