Maleficent
_{From Sleeping Beauty}

Worth taking a look in full view if you like texture details on hats...
When I went looking for character model sheets, I found a lot of Maleficent, and decided to print them out to stick in my ideas book.
Then I decided just to draw Maleficent with some reference, so she's looking like herself here.
_{Then I realised that I could pull off a quite convincing Jane from Tarzan - I have the teeth for it - but I digress...}

Ya gotta love Maleficent - as a kid, I remember thinking that Maleficent was a very cool villain to watch. I look back and think that, really, if there was no Maleficent, Sleeping Beauty wouldn't have much going for it (other than the fairies and their constant bickering!)

Anyone else hear the rumour that Angelina Jolie will be playing Maleficent in an upcoming film (of the same name), possibly directed by Tim Burton?
_{By all that is chewy, I pray this rumour isn't true... it sounds like it could be dire!}

I agree that a film of her back story wouldn't really work. Faeries do not think and act as humans do, they are more like extensions of elements or concepts like light and dark. So their actions are largely driven by their natures rather than tragic circumstances.

I also feel Angelina Jolie is too conventionally beautiful to portray her. Maleficent is attractive but in an alternate way, her features are very hard and angular.

It would go badly, I feel. If Tim Burton's doing it, he usually tries to make everyone sympathetic, which can backfire if done wrong... I personally thought Willy Wonka's backstory wasn't needed at all, and he wasn't even evil. Then the Mad Hatter's backstory, that was just bizarre. And the Red Queen gets a tragic backstory too?

But Maleficent, if she has a tragic story then she just isn't Maleficent anymore...

I agree with that too, I thought Angelica Houston would have been a better choice.

I was very confused by the Willy Wonka back story too. Burton has a lovely style of art but his plots are a bit predictable.

Anyway I haven't heard any more rumours about the proposed film so perhaps it won't happen after all? Although Angelica Houston would have been a perfect Maleficent!

I think the main problem was that they never really needed to give Wonka a backstory in the first place

Hopefully! It's Angelica Houston or nothing in my opinion!
